I've got a hp p1006 laser printer that has worked fine with all versions of windows up through vista. however, on windows 7 (64-bit) it isn't cooperating. When the driver is installed, it doesn't give errors.

However, when a document is sent to print, it shows up in the print queue twice. After it finishes spooling, both documents dissappear from the queue but no printing attempt is made. All cables and cords are plugged in, paper is full and no error messages display on the printer. It is plugged in via USB to my HP laptop running 64 bit Windows 7. This is the only device I've had trouble using.

Has anybody had similar experiences or have any suggestions? As a grad student, I really need this thing to start working, pronto! Thanks!

Have you tried going to www.hp.com and downloading the software?
There is a problem similar to what you mentioned. Job would be queued up twice. However, one of the jobs would disappear and the 2nd would start to print 2 minutes later.

This was occurring with 64 bit windows due to the way the spool system works in windows 64 when running 32 bit applications.

The problem was caused by the software on the CD sent with the printer.

Download the latest software, if you haven't already.

I do have the most up-to-date hp software. It still seems to be having the problem with that.

Try a different driver then ... try the ones you used previously for Vista or XP ...

thanks, that is a good idea, but I have used previous drivers as well, with no change in problem.
