I have a few 4100 N's andTN's.
I trying to find a turn on timing and sequencingof circuits that what during turn on.
Similar to a washing machine timer that turns water on, shuts water off, cycles agitation, cycles spin etc, etc...
WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU TURN ON THE PRINTER AND WHEN DOES IT HAPPEN( in those few seconds before the display say 'Ready')!!???!!

A search of the Internet does not produce anything and years of experience shows nothing in the service manuals. My call is that is proprietary and not available to us. As a guess: the power supply does a self test, are the fan(s) running, the memory on the formatter is tested, the firmware is checked for file integrity errors, the sensors are checked to see if they are clear, check for toner cartridge present, check the cover interlocks, roll the mechanism to make sure there is no paper jammed somewhere and the motors are all turning, is the fuser up to temperature, is the NIC present and ready, is there paper in the tray? The laser scanner is not tested until the first page is printed because the printer will pass POST but will not print if the laser is not working. Listen for the "wooooop" of the mirror motor.
If anyone has more specifics I too would like to know.

Thanks Al,
What I'm trying to figure out is what is wrong or not right with the DC controller board.
The one I have, the motor starts to runs up , then stops. On a good machine this 'step' keeps going and runs thru the complete start up cycle.
Just trying to see what part of the board I can t/s .....or do I need a new board??!!??

In the past we tried to get a schematic for an HP board we were having a lot of failures with. Our regional HP rep kept promissing us but we never got one. Without the diagram, and some of the components being proprietary and made of unobtainium, there is little chance of fixing the board.

What kind of error are you getting?
Take the DC Controller out of a working printer and put it in the broke one to see if that's the problem.
