View Full Version : 4350 Paper Jams under Toner Cartridge

We have a 4350 with around 750,000 pages printed on it and are running into an issue with random paper jams that occur under the toner cartridge where the paper curls up before entering the fuser. We have swapped toner cartridges, replaced the fuser and the transfer roller but it still jams.

I noticed that the paper feed belt assembly that has the little belt with those 4 smaller belts on it appears to be worn out. The middle belt seems to be stretched out. Do you think replacing the paper feed belt assembly would solve this issue?

Thanks

The small media assembly rarely wears out ... if you're printing regular size (letter) paper, that assembly being worn shouldn't cause paper jams ...

A really worn swing plate assembly could cause this type of paper jam ... this is the assembly that drives the fuser ...
generally you will hear gear grinding type noise ...
if you pull your fuser out and look inside the back of the printer on the left hand side, you should see a black plastic gear ... many times it will be chipped/worn ...

I replaced the swing plate assembly in that printer about 3 months ago. I replaced it with one from HP that has the plastic gears on them not the metal ones shown in your link. The printer worked fine for about 3 months after I replaced the swing plate assembly.

I just checked the gears on the swing plate and they don't look like they are in that bad of shape. I only see a little bit of gear dust below them.

Also when I replaced the swing plate assembly on that printer last time, the gear that was bad was the white one and not the black gear, the white gear had all its teeth stripped off. The black gear was still in decent shape.

Should I upgrade the swing plate assembly to the one with the metal gears?

What are the odds of that fixing this issue?

Thanks

The odds are probably 0%.

There's the paper feed belt assembly page 243 in the manual.

No, you will need to replace both the feed assy. found behind the MP assy., and the registration assy. These become worn and out of sync, and will give you the paper jams. Also blow out the sensor for the feed assy. that is on the main board. Clean the exit sensor also.
