hp 970 cxi flashing left light

I have a HP 970 cxi printer that has developed a problem. The far left indicator light flashes and I've tried the following.
1) put in new ink cartridges
2) powered down printer
3)cleaned contacts
If any one has a suggesation I would really appreciate it.
