I get a constant false error code 13 - Paper Jam constantly now. If I open the top and rear cover about 10 times, it will reset and run. I had it to a tech and he cleaned around the rear and front sensors but still no good.

The pickup roller is starting to cause some regular real paper jams. After that happens, I have to reset the false paper jam problem all over again. Is this worth taking a chance on and refurbishing myself or is the problem likely to remain after I take it all apart and put a new fuser and rollers in?

Page count is 46250. Any ideas where to look for the unstable circuit? Thanks much for your help.

We worked on a lot of these in the past. Probably time to look for a replacement. LJ 4 printers can be had for next to nothing, probably not worth fixing. Find another LJ 4 and use the one you have for parts. The # 98 cartridges also work in LJ4+ and LJ5n printers.

If the feed roller is good, there is a good chance that the paper feed assembly is failing...
In any case, the printer is an old veteran...
it might be time to bury it and get a newer HP model!

Good luck

Thanks for the input. Buuutttt ... not one tech or user came up with the eventual solution. My local tech wouldn't even return my emails. He was stumped. So many here said trash it. It turned out to be a faulty toner cartridge. Now I have no error codes nor paper feed issues. Put this down in the memory banks.

Thanks for the effort though. ;)

Appreciate the reply. We get a lot of rebuilt toner cartridges, many from China, and have seen some strange problems too. Good work!
