I had a 49.2f9D problem and upgraded the firmware from the HP site. It worked for two pages then went to a 49.23A1 problem. All of a sudden I'm getting a 53.00.01 error and can't get past it. I have had a look for the Dimm but don't see any. What could have happened and how do I get around the problem?

There is a known issue with these formatters being faulty ... we have replaced TONS of them. Call for pricing 866-352-7108 .

Are you saying that a new formatter will definitely solve this problem? If so I will buy it from you but I need to be sure as I am fixing it for a client and don't want to run up an unneccessary expense.

The formatter is what we would start with if we had the printer in for repair (other than first doing a Cold Reset & NVRAM Init) Obviously without having the machine in to test I can't guarantee that's the issue; but since those formatters fail so regularly it would be the the most likely problem...

if you have a working machine of the EXACT same model you could swap formatters to see if the error clears... (if you do swap from a working machine, make sure you match the model names match to the letter, to avoid losing any features like duplexing, networking, etc.)...

I assume you've already done a Cold Reset, NVRAM Init.

Cannot do a cold reset. It immediately goes to 53.00.01 error, and it only did this after I had upgraded the firmware.

Tried an NVRAM initialization? Note this will reset the serial #, event log, page counts & EIO card ...

To initialize NVRAM
1. Remove any installed accessories (for example, a stapler/stacker).
2. Turn the printer off.
3. Hold down the DOWN ARROW button, and then turn the printer on. Continue holding down the DOWN ARROW button until all three printer control-panel lights flash once and then remain on. This might take up to 10 seconds.
4. Press the UP ARROW button.
5. Press the PAUSE/RESUME button. The display should show SKIP DISK LOAD.
6. Press the UP ARROW button until NVRAM INIT is highlighted.
7. Press the SELECT button. The printer initializes NVRAM and then continues its poweron sequence.

If Cold Reset and NVRAM won't take, formatter replacement is the only thing you can do. I think the 49 errors you experienced before were probably signs pointing to a faulty formatter, and then the firmware upgrade was probably the "last straw" that crashed the formatter.

Looks like it has to be formatter replacement so. I'll tell the client the bad news and see if he wants to pay the cost and then order the part. Thanks Steve for all your help as always,
