Hi to all. I have a HP 9000dn that has met with an accident in transit.
The top plastic cover (including lcd display & control) went missing (blown off
in the wind laying on the road somewhere).
There appears to be no damage besides missing parts. I have powered it up
and tried to print but the print gets about 1" out of the fuser and stops.
The prints look fine. I am wondering if this is due to the display being missing
or something else.
I dont wish to chase up the missing parts if there is other issues with the
printer. Any clues much appreciated, also if anyone has one of these machines
for parts I'm interested. :)

Cheers

To troubleshoot it you will need the covers and the control panel. Usually when the paper pokes about that far out of the fuser it is the jam detector/paper present sensor flag in the fuser. We get a lot of mangled printers here. Often a local HP shop will have parts machines and will sell you used covers at a reasonable price. If the customer wants the printer the HP shop could, probably at a reasonable cost, test it for you if they have a parts machine.

Thanks Al for you reply.
I have tracked down a parts machine that is reasonably priced.
In the mean time I'll check out the fuser jam sensor.

There is a plastic lever on the fuser that trips when paper comes out of it.
If it is damaged, paper will get about an inch out and stop/jam...
Look closely at the fuser and look for the sensor that looks at it.
