Good morning All.

I have a strange issue with an hp 4100.

Current setup we have is 2 HP 4100 printers at our Front desk. about 4 months ago the fuser sleeve on the left printer peeled. Since this is our most used printer we moved the fuser from the right printer to the left printer. We order 2 replacement fusers kits (non printertechs sorry we learned our lesson) and when they showed up I installed both fuser kits. I took the one that was in the left printer and put it in a box and marked as emergency spare.

everything seemed fine until about 1 month later the right printer fuser sleeve peeled off. This is one of the replacement fuser kits we just got so we contacted the supplier. They shipped a replacement out and I installed it and about 2-3 weeks later the fuser sleeve was peeled again.

Currently I have the emergency spare installed and printer is working fine. So far 3 weeks and all is good.

We have since purchased a printertechs maintained kit for this specific printer but I'm worried about installing this fuser kit and having it peel as well.

Actual Question.

Now I'm wondering if this is the printer causing the issue maybe to much heat or just a case of bad remanufactured fuser kits.?

Premature sleeve tearing comes from either:
1. The quality of the Teflon sleeve being used
2. User intervention (i.e. using a screwdriver to remove a paper jam and accidentally "knicking" the sleeve)
3. Abuse of intended usage (i.e. running thicker/abrasive paper & media that exceeds the recommended guidelines)

On the 4100 model, it is not unusual for the sleeve to rip eventually-- even HP's sleeve for the 4100 will rip over time. But poor-quality sleeves tear too quickly/easily.

That's why rebuilders should always run endurance tests with sleeves when choosing what sleeves to use. Some don't bother or don't know better; their criteria for a good sleeve is whoever sells sleeves at the "cheapest price".

Assuming you're not running super-unusual media though the printer (like sandpaper :-) you should be safe to install the new fuser. The problem most likely lies in the quality of the Teflon material.

I agree with above at all.
I have an other idea too. If You, changing only the sleeve (not the fuser kit) be careful of which kind of grease using. Because some kind of grease fit for other type of fusing assy (for higher or lower temperature).
