Hello. My fifteen year old HP 4L laserjet has had a bad week. First came the loud groaning noise which I traced to a bad motor drive gear and replaced it. Now the paper will not manually feed. All that happens is a soft clicking of a solenoid somewhere but the orange paper light does not go out nor does anything else happen with the printer. If i hit the blue lever with paper ready to feed, the lights cycle but come back to the paper light without anything but that soft solenoid click. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Well ... those solenoids can also gum up and "go bad". Unfortunately HP has stopped supporting the 4L (discontinued making parts for it) . It may be time to replace this printer: a good replacement is the LaserJet 2100, 2200, 2300 series ...
