I have a problem with the HP1000. The printer will not pick up the paper. It seems to me that the paper tray should rise to meet the pickup rollers but this is not happening. I've changed the pickup roller and the separation pad. Any suggestions?

Could be "paper pick up assembly" or "Pick up solenoid" which is attached to the formatter at connector P5.

If you use the priority input tray, does that work?

Hi redcow,

Thanks for the reply. It's a Laserjet 1000 and it doesn't have a priority input tray so I can't check that out.Any idea's?

There is a manual feed on this model... you can slide a piece of paper into the feed mechanism by feeding it over the "top" of the plastic paper tray , and the pickup roller / sep pad should pick it up...

If it was my printer, I would probably change the pickup roller / sep pad (which you did) and if that didn't solve the pickup issue, I'd replace it rather than invest money in fixing it. Based on the years that printer has been around, it's probably had a "good run" . As far as parts that could be causing the error -- could be an activator clutch or you could just replace the whole pickup assembly . But since this printer is considered a "personal" printer generally speaking if you value your time it's not really worth guessing / putting parts into.

If you want to fix it because you like this style of printer, we sell a LaserJet 1200 and a LaserJet 1300, which are very similar but more recent successors to that model ...

Thanks cs steve,

I got it free so I wanted to have a go at fixing it. We sell toner cartridges for laser printers and occassionally get a call to fix printers so I thought I would learn what I could.
