Hi there,

I am currentlu working on an LJ 5200 printer. After removing the top cover a part fell out on the bench and for the life of me, I can't find where it goes. I have scoured the tech manual from cover to cover and can not see the part anywhere. I suspect it may be a matter of not being able to see the forrest for the trees. I have attached a few pics, not very sharp but hopefully you will get the idea.

The end result of this part is that the printer prints the first page of a multi page document. The first page does not exit the printer fully and the leading edge of the second page stops at the registration roller.

Any comments would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Phil.

HP 4200's have this part. It goes in the top cover. I didnt know the 5200 had one. Anyway it goes in from the top on the right side near the rear door on the 4200 series. Underneath the narrow upper cover that covers the optional attachment plug on that series of printers. I would assume it would be the same on a 5200. Hope this helps you.

Many thanks for your suggestion. I can see this part quite clearly in the 4200 manual, with no part number, making it difficult to investigate its purpose. Unfortunately the top of the 5200 is somewhat different and I can't locate any orifices into which I could place my thingummy.

If I knew its purpose even, I might be able to track it down. It looks like it should slide somewhat and perhaps interact with a sensor or switch of some sort.

Any further comments/suggestions would be gratefully appreciated.

Regards,

Phil.

On the 4200's that piece serves as an activator switch/lever which presses down whenever you install a stacker on the top of the machine, thereby "notifying" that a stacker is installed ...

However, on the 5200's there is no stacker accessory , so I'm wondering -- are you sure this piece came out of the 5200? Have you worked on 4200/4300 series printer recently that it could have fallen out of instead?

I'm not recognizing the piece, but if it did come out of the 5200 then it would
probably be an activator switch for either the rear door being shut or duplexer installed ...

That paper exit jam actually sounds like the paper is getting stuck inside the fuser ... do you have another 5200 around that you could swap fuser and be sure the new one works fine?

Embarrassingly I might have to admit that the part may be from a previous job although I don't recall specifically working on a 4200. I just remember hearing (or thinking I heard) a piece falling to the bench when I removed the cover, and I picked up this part from where the sound came.

I believe you are right in that the paper jamming is originating from somewhere else. I believe I might have been paid a visit from the "&*^K it up fairies". Back to the drawing board.

Many thanks for you comments, the are appreciated.

Phil.
