I'm an Printer Technician and have an HP Laserjet 4345 that is giving me problems. Basically the customer can be doing anything and it will pop up "Genuine Toner installed" the same exact screen it shows when the cover get's closed. New firmware is on there, has happened on multiple cartridges (OEM) and there is a new formatter on there to fix other problems they were having besides this one. Any ideas? Thanks

When it pops up "Genuine Toner installed", does the printer cycle as if someone has closed the lid?

I'm not sure why this message is a problem, unless maybe it's getting in their way while they're trying to enter something at the control panel... it should not affect their printing in any way.

You've cleaned the toner contacts?

If it wasn't doing this before you swapped in the new formatter, then ... try a different formatter?

Otherwise, you might look at swapping the HVPS, DC controller... expensive guesses for a small problem, though.

I don't think it cycles but I may be wrong. It's a problem because if they are entering info for a fax or an e-mail address then they have to start over on it. I've cleaned the contact from above the toner that goes on the chip. It was doing it with both formatters.

Maybe the one of the cover interlock switches/sensors is telling the electronics that the cover is open?

I think if the interlock switches were accidentally being toggled, it should cycle ...
if it doesn't cycle, my focus would be the electronics, HVPS or DC controller

Went there again today and asked the customer if it cycles when the message pops up and he said it does not. HVPS or DC Controller are starting to make sense. Thanks guys for being a lot more useful then HP Tech Support.

Do you have the part number for that? I'm sure it's in the manual but I'm having a hard time finding it.

HVPS part # is not listed in the manual for some reason...

RM1-1354 is the part number for the DC controller PCA ...

It's actually called Engine Power Supply RM1-1041-000CN(110v)
RM1-1042-000CN(240v)

Still not working. I've changed the two boards in the back, the board under the toner that the fuser plugs into, new formatter, new firmware...I'm lost.

What happens if you install remanufactured (non-oem) toner?

Don't know...they don't have non oem toner.

Does anybody think this could possibly be the little sensor thing that reads the chip on the toner cartridge? I'm probably grasping for straws but does anybody know if this is available as a part and if it has a part number. Thanks.

I did install a DC Controller...I'm at a complete loss on this machine...have changed every board, the control panel, the formatter...I'm running out of ideas.

The chip on the side of the toner ... what happens if you pop it off and try to print without the chip? It might be a "fix" that at least "gets 'em by" ...
