I just changed the fuser on a LazerJet 5. The printer then worked just fine on the first print job. However, after that first print job it started jamming. The paper dosn't get completly out of the tray before I get an error notice saying, "clear paper jam." When I open feed drawer to remove the jammed paper, the top sheet is doubled over, but not yet fed into the printer. When I remove the doubled over sheet, the front left corner of the paper is a little crumpled.

Any info on how to fix this is appeciated.

Thanks
Scott

Is the paper getting into the transfer guide?

Is this a 5si or a 5n? Assuming it is a 5n, unplug it and remove the centronix or network cable. Pull out the paper tray. Set the printer on its back and look up the paper path with a flashlight and look for a scrap of paper.

Also examine the "D" roller that grabs the paper out of the paper tray and moves it along. If this D roller has become hard and is worn crooked then it tends to skew the paper causing jams.

An emergency fix is to use tray # one until you can get parts.

Please let us know what you found.

I have not worked on a 5n for a while but something else worked its way out of deep storage in my brain. The first thing the paper encounters when it leaves the tray is the Comb Guide. This is a flat piece of black plastic with teardrop shaped fins. When you pick up the printer with the tray removed it is possible to pop this guide out of place. On each end of this guide are two little pins that locate the guide in the frame. It is not easy to get this thing back in place. I usually grabbed it in the middle with a sturdy pair of needle nose and twisted the guide which gave just enough slack to get the pins located. Hope this helps.

Thanks, The paper is not getting into the trasfer guide. However, paper from the upper tray that I usually user for legal size paper works, so I can use it until I figure it out.

Thanks for your replay.
