Greetings,

I have a HP4100 getting an 13.1 error. After some troubleshooting I figured out that the paper pick wheels are not turning it is the one big wheel and the 3 half moon wheels. this is tray 2 I'm talking about. Tray 1 works fine. I did some searching and found it could be the PCA so I replaced that, and still a no go. I then split this thing in two and I got to the Pickup Assembly Solenoid This appears to be the main guy that runs the pickup assembly. I tested it for continuity and nothing. Has anybody seen a solenoid go out seems rare sense there is not much to them. Anybody have any thoughts on this

Normally a 13.1 is a false paper jam. Printer thinks it fed paper and leading edge of paper never makes it too the sensor, so paper musta jammed.

I believe most of the techs start with changing the rollers first before tearing the printer apart.

Recount your "half moon wheels". If you only see three, that may be your problem!

my bad yes there are four half moon wheels the problem they do not turn, and also the paper pick-up wheel does not turn. So the paper is going nowhere. There is no need to replace the rubbers when they are not even turning. Your right 13.1 is a false paper jam because paper is not moving out of tray 2.

How do you know the rollers are not turning...?

99 times out of 100, 13.1 errors on this model are from worn rubber on the feed / separation rollers (the two grey/blue rollers)...

If you stand at the back of the printer and look "through" the tray, you will be able to watch these pickup / feed rollers in operation ... Have you watched it from this angle?

A good test ... there are little metal "tabs" in the paper tray that hold the paper down ... if you try to print, then pull the tray out, is the top sheet of paper moved slightly, free from those tabs? If it is, then the rollers are turning, you just need to replace the feed/separation rollers.

It was the solenoid. I got a replacement put it in works like it should again.

Thanks to everyone who responded to this thread

To answer the last thread from cs-steve I took out tray 2 and held in the metal tabs, and held up the paper sensor arm, and did print printer config.
