Hi Everyone,
I have an issue with not one but two 2600's. I am getting shadowing and ghosting of black print repeating down the page.
I checked the repetitive defect ruler and the ghosting is spaced 57 mm apart. According to the ruler, it should be the fuser sleeve. I have replaced the fusers in both and the exact same issues remain on both.
I replaced both ETB's to no effect and new black toner carts as well. I am not sure where to go next with this and the nurses are starting to freak out. If anyone can offer any ideas or suggestions, I am all ears.
Thanks very much for the time everyone. Once I get this issue resolved, I will post about the three 4250's I have down too. Have a great day!
Respectfully,
George D.

Have you messed with changing the print quality? Also have you tried a factory reset?

I have done a factory reset but it has had no effect. No luck with adjusting the print quality settings either.

If you print the configuration sheets. What is being repeated down the page?
Look at the bottom of the 1st config page. Under the page counts there is small text
the top row starts with cpr Follow the line to the right until you see EV=XX. What is the XX on you printer?
What kind of paper are you using?
Try running the half test to see if it's failing before the fuser.

That type of problem is usually the toner, but if you replaced them then it has to be H/V cutting out because of a timing issue in the DC cont.
Although it has been the formatter in some cases I have had.
Try a firmware flash, it might help.

Red,
According to the config page, the XX is 2A. The gray category bars (Product Information, Memory, Paper Settings, etc) are what is ghosting. As far as the paper, its your basic Staples 20 lb copy paper.

I copied this from my Linux machine. The pictures didn't make it, but the text
should explain what you should do.
Basically the picts would show what you call ghosting or a repetivive image down the page at 56.6mm intervals.
Background:
Certain media can abrade the fixing film surface of the fuser. This prevents the toner from adhering correctly to the media as it passes through the fuser.
Solution:
The engine dc controller firmware needs to be updated to R1.47. The dc controller firmware revision can be found on the Configuration Page. There are 2 lines of values at the bottom of the page. The first line begins with “cpr”. Towards the end of the line is some hex values that begin with “Ev= XX”. The R1.47 equates to 2F in hex. Once the dc controller firmware is successfully updated it should read “Ev= 2F”.
Your firmware is a 2A, so it should be upgraded.

Red,
I did the firmware update to 2F as you described and it had no effect on the ghosting. Keep the ideas coming guys. Thanks!

Those fusers you installed as replacement... were they new genuine HP fusers or refurbished?... it is a long shot but definitely possible to get 2 bad replacement fusers :-)
Do you have a 2600 that you know is working fine? Pull the fuser out of there and swap it in ...

Unfortunately, I have two and both are down with the exact same issue. As a matter of fact, I just found out of a third 2600 with the same ghosting problem.
If I can ever get these figured out, I am going to be such a hero! Thanks for all the ideas. They are greatly appreciated.

Did you try the half test?
Yes I have run the half page test and the ghosting is present before it goes through the fuser.

Sorry I forgot to answer your other question. They are refurbs from Depot America. We use them almost all the time and have gone through thousands of fusers. It is a possibility but two bad fusers in one batch like that seems like too much of a stretch.
Thanks,
George

"Yes I have run the half page test and the ghosting is present before it goes through the fuser."
Alright it's not the fuser. Change the cartridge

I have replaced the cartridge. Twice, the last time was a brand new HP toner out of the box.

If you did the half print test and the ghosting appears before the paper gets to the fuser, the problem is not the fuser.
It's got to be the drum or the transfer roller.

I am a bit confused. What drum are you referring to? Is that the photo-whatever drum in the toner?

yes! the toner drum

Red,
I have tried three different toners, one was a brand new out of the box HP toner. I am just getting rather frustrated with these three machines.
Thanks everyone for the help.

I know you've checked some of this already, because Redcow has you going in the right direction. This is my process everytime I have a image issue:
Image problem troubleshooting sequence:
1) print from control panel. Does problem occur only from PC or from control panel? If it occurs both ways go to step 2. If it only happens from PC, download new driver (if its new driver, downgrade), update firmware, and get latest version/patch/update of software problem is occuring with.
2) Start with half page test first, before anything or you're just wasting time. (stop paper before it goes into fuser -check image) If its on the page, its not the fuser, go to step 3. If its not on the page, replace the fuser.
3) Change cartridges - (highly likely)
4) clean paper path thoroughly
5) replace ETB and/or transfer roller - (likely)
4) Laser scanner (usually light print only - not an issue here)
5) high voltage contacts on the toner cartridge (black images, dark images, or bubbles in print - not an issue here)
6) High voltage power supply (black images, dark images)
7) Formatter issues (garbled, fuzzy print, missing characters - unlikely that this is your problem)
Some of this may not pertain to your problem. Go with what is most likely first. No need to spend money on parts that may not be needed. Hope this helps you
