I have an epson R300 which has been working fine for a couple of years and has now suddenly stopped working at all. The power is on and everything looks ok it just will not print.

The print jobs appear in the queue, and then stay there, when I try to cancel the print job it just hangs in the queue, the only way I can remove it is through the admin tools.

I did try to remove the printer so I could reinstall it but when I try to delete the printer from the hardware window I get a not responding message and it hangs.

When i try to print I get no error messages at all.......just nothing happens.

I'm running vista with all updates. I did recently install new print cartridges but it did all the maintenance checks fine afterwards. It now won't even print a test page.

I've switched everything off and disconnected but it makes no difference. I'm starting to pull my hair out as there is no logical reason why it won't work.

Any Ideas ????????

That sounds like a huge driver issue and because it's Vista I'm not really going to be much help...

You might want to try restarting the print spooler (again no idea how you do that in Vista) and see if that helps. Also I'd recommend seeing if you can borrow an XP laptop or similar to see if the printer will work properly with that to at least ID whether the printer or the driver/Operating system is the problem.

If nothing else trying a different USB cable and USB sockets to see if that solves the issue.

Thanks for the reply

I've had to stop and restart the printer spool to remove the prints from the queue and this has had no effect on the printer working.

I've tried a different USB socket and that made no difference.

I tried today to install the drivers from the disc and at print utility setup I got a not responding message during the setup so I had to quit from that.

I guess I'll have to try the printer on another PC but it won't solve my problem of trying to print from this PC which I really need.

I've connected the printer to another PC and it's worked fine.

So I've obviously got a problem with the PC somewhere, from what I've tried so far I'm thinking it must be a Vista problem caused by something that's happened recently.

Any ideas how I can diagnose the problem?

It could also be a hardware issue ie: the USB ports or drivers for the USB controllers are borked.

Dare I say it, the overall solution may well be to revert to a Windows XP operating system... Hardly helpful I know but it would work.

Was the other PC also running Vista?

What version driver are you running? It should be
Epson EasyPrint v3.10A.

I think it possible is a USB problem.

I'm also getting a message that I have a mass storage device connected via USB, which I don't. And if I try to remove it it just reappears again.

Yes both PC's are using vista yet the laptop prints fine.

How do I find out which version of the printer drivers I'm using.

Just go out to Epson and download the drivers again.

Actually you do... That's the driver speak for the flash memory stick reader in the R300.. :)

I'd go with redcows suggestion and download the latest drivers from the epson website, uninstall whatever you have in currently and reinstall. Even if they're the same version, uninstalling and reinstalling may solve the issue.
