I have a problem with an HP3600, when there is paper in tray 2 the printer does not see it and keeps saying to load paper. the paper is there and fresh and clean and not sticky or humid.
where is the sensor that recognizes that there is paper in the drawer?
also my diagnostic page is locked, is there a way to unlock it if the code is unknown? is it locked at the factory? is there a jumper or something to short?
thans for your help.

Pull tray 2 out of the printer. Look inside and up. There should be a flag that hangs down. I believe that it is on the shaft where the roller is. If you see it, flip it with your finger. It should be free to flop up and down. It may be jammed.
If you can't fix it or if it's not the problem you'll have to replace the paper feeder assembly. Besides the paper tray and the fuser, that's the easiest thing to change on this printer.

Are you referring to the Service Mode or Diagnostics?
You need a pin to get into Service Mode.
If you are locked out of Diagnostics...find the administrater.
He probably locked it to keep the users from fooling around.

yes the diagnostic mode, I currently am the administrator. The last admin left suddenly and did not leave a continuity book with any of the codes. Thats why I am looking for a shorting jumper like when you have to reset the BIOS on a computer.

Turn printer off and then on
When initialization starts, press and hold the big check mark until all the LEDs are lit
Press the down arrow until COLD RESET appears, then press the big check mark again.
If you are using a plug in jet direct, remove it.
Run a config page first. You may need it to reset the TCP/IP info if you are using an embedded JD
Now see if you can get into DIAGNOSTICS
