Hi All,
I just swapped out the parts on a 2420dn using a new maint kit. The printer has a third tray. When I print from tray one and tray 3 I have no problems. When I print from tray 2 I get blank sheets and jams. Everything sure seems to be installed correctly - what did I miss? :D Any help appreciated!

Check the paper size settings in your tray (plastic "sliders" that you adjust to determine paper width / paper length)...

Everything is set for letter. It's so strange, 3 pages each time, one in the tray being pulled to print, one under the cartridge, and one halfway out the top as if it's finished printing, but nothing is on the sheet.

You might try swapping tray 1 and tray 2.

Whenever you troubleshoot disconnect all optional equipment. In this case, remove the printer from Tray 3 optional feeder and try printing from tray 2 again. Check the roller in tray 2. It is keyed so verify that the connection to the p/u shaft is good and that the sensor flag is in the right position. If you have to try removing the p/u roller and reinstalling it again. Sometimes it looks like its correct, but is not. Also the bushing on the other end of the shaft near the frame wall that is white should have a clip and it should be visible from the underside. If not, you have the arduous job of removing the gear drive, formatter (basically everything on the right side) and reinserting the shaft correctly from the outside of the frame. While you're there check the tray 2 drive gear for damage or deformity. Make sure the tension spring is correct. hope this helps you

Big, how do you swap trays 1 and 2?
Sawyer, when you get it fixed, please respond with the solution.
It doesn't make any sense that trays 3 and 1 feed and print, but tray 2 doesn't print but feeds. Can you run an engine test from 2?
If you run the printer from the console does tray 2 work?

Sawyer, are you sure this same problem was not happening BEFORE you installed the maintenance kit? One possibility is a solenoid/paper pickup assembly failure ... if the pickup assembly is continuously being engaged by a faulty solenoid, the paper will continuously be fed ...
