hello!

today the spares i ordered arrived. after installing them and completing the assembling, there are now a few spares (who doesnt have a few springs left over?) and a few questions.

1) what exactly does the registration shutter (in the registration assembly) do?

2) there is a small shaft spring, that can be found on gear side of the registrations assembly, sitting on the shaft which is taking power from the gear assembly. this spring somehow does something to the registration shutter. can anyone tell me how to install it? i know it goes there but i cant seem to fit it.
a small picture will help immensely.

3) this is purely a theoritical question, but it has been bugging me a lot.
on the output area, on the plastic cover that hides the fuser assembly, there are two paper sensors. can you tell me how these TWO sensors help in the paper path. i mean i can understand the use of one sensor, but why two?

the spring is the most urgent thing though.

thanx a lot!

Sometimes is best to have another 2200D printer next to you, I will look into my 2200DTN and see how it is but wont disturb it.

....but wont disturb it.

you are the best!
you just have to remove the toner cartridge to get visibility to the area. a snapshot of the right hand side of the paper release lever/plate will help immensely.

Thanx again,
Ark!

I believe one of the sensors (ps501) is sensing for paper reversing using the duplexer and the other one (ps502) senses paper coming out of the fuser.

Not sure about your extra spring.

None of my service calls are for small printers like the 2200.

thank yolu redcow.

now that i visualise the paper path, and imagine the paper travelling through it, i can see why there are two sensors.
thanx for clearing it up!

reg the spring, i fiddled around with and somehow fixed it in the proper orientation.

thanx for all the help!

Ark you need a service manual.

ooh! i have a service manual for the 2200 *feeling stupid here*

frankly, i am more of a software guy, than a hardware guy.
i can do my fair share of repairing and cleaning, but sometimes, when things are tricky, i mess up.

i managed to assemble everything up, but now the pickups wont work - both tray and tray 2.
i tried to bypass the formatter and try the engine test, but still the same problem. physically disconnected the formatter from the system, but still it wont print.

all the connectors are properly seated and fastened. but no pickup.

There is also a large spring under the pick-up assy. for tray 2. It can pop out, and lay sideways, not being seen. If the flag in the duplex assy is sticky, it will jam. I just loosen one screw in it, and it moves easier.

i got fed up with it, and did a complete dissassembly.
nearly at the end of it, i saw that a sensor on the bottom of the registration assemby was not seated properly.

fixed it, and now it is printing like a charm!

still having problems with the manual tray, but i think i can address it later.
