Greetings all,

I have an HP 4600 that works fine for some people, but for others it will sometimes print fine (other times it doesn't). When it doesn't work it will print a page with the following information:

PCL XL error

Subsystem: IMAGE
Error: ExtraData
Operator: ReadImage
Position: always different

The following is the other error I have seen:

PCL XL error

Subsystem: KERNEL
Error: IllegalTag
Operator: 0xf7
Position: 1813

I have checked the jetdirect card that is installed (it's a 620n), and the network cable from the wall to the printer (I don't think it's a network issue since it's not constant). Any suggestions would be appreciated.

PCL6 drivers are probably at fault.
Try reloading them. Or try PCL5

Thank you, I will give that a shot and see what happens. I take it for granted that I can get the drivers from the HP site.

after you do what redcow says, I would suggest that you get customers to download latest software versions/updates/patches for the individual programs they are using. I once had a color issue from certain users who had older versions of graphic programs that were conflicting with the printer drivers.

Thanks for that info, I will do that as well.

You also might check if any workstations have installed the driver locally.
People will make changes, and forget to put it back the way it was.
Remove them, and only map to the print server for the printer.
