I am having a problem with a M3035MFP that does not see tray 3. I have tried another tray assy and when I first turned on the printer it pulled a page from tray 3 but the printer still did not see tray 3. Any ideas on what I can try next.

"I have tried another tray assy and when I first turned on the printer it pulled a page from tray 3 but the printer still did not see tray 3"

Can you please micro explain that sentence. Not sure how paper is pulled from a tray it can't see.

I agree. After I put the new Tray 3 assembly in place and turned on the printer a page was pulled from tray 3 while the printer was initializing. I know it was from tray 3 because I had marked the top page in the cassette.

-- You say that your printer "does not see Tray 3" ... If you print a Configuration page from the Information menu, is Tray 3 listed under "Installable Options" ...? If Tray 3 does not appear on the Configuration page, then there are only two possibilities: either something is physically wrong with your tray, or something physically wrong with the connector on the bottom of your printer.

-- To print from Tray 3 from the computer, you need to notify the driver in your Windows Control Panel that you have the additional Tray 3 installed ... go under Control Panel, open up the properties of your printer, go to the Advanced tab, and make sure that "Tray 3=INSTALLED".

The tray does not show up in the configuration page. The connectors on the tray and on the printer look fine but there is where my problem must be.

Sounds like this is your problem (see attachment, first sentence):
