hp color laserjet 2840 scanner stuck

The scanner on one of my HP Color LaserJet 2840 All In Ones is stuck. It sits all the way to the right and grinds away like it is trying to go farther right. I cannot find anything on hp's support site about it or google. Hoping someone here might know an answer.

Could be the belt or a jammed gear.
Easiest fix is replace the flatbed scanning assembly. Q3948-60191CN. That's the number for the whole assembly. If you order it, tell them you only want to order the scanner assembly not the ADF
