Hello everyone,
I am new on these forums. And pretty much new to the world of printing. But I have been asked by my boss to try and find info on a laser printer that will print in shipping invoices and such in under 2 seconds.
Does anything like this exist... and if so, any ideas on where I should look?
Thanks in advance,
Neal

Hi, like you, I'm new. Hopefully I can help out.
Kicking out a piece of paper in 2 seconds. That's interesting. I don't know if any printer does that.
Now, for sustained print jobs, sure. You're only looking at 30 page a minute.
Okay, let's start out with the types of jobs you're sending, you said it was shipping invoices? I'm not much of a software guy, but does that print job sent down through a Windows application? And if so, when you send the job to a printer (one you already use) does the print spooler show the job as "Processing page x of 150" or is there a huge list of print jobs to go to the printer.
There's a difference here. It's kind of like making 100 photocopies. If you set the page on the glass and punch in "100", it makes a 100 copies fairly quickly. However, if you set the page on the glass and leave it at "1" copy, d hit the copy button 100 times, it takes a whole lot longer!
Now, there's a ton of various factors involved here. I guess the question I have for you is what do you currently use and what behavior are you looking to get rid of?

Hi,
Sorry for the late reply. Work has been busy.
Let me see if I can answer that question more coherently than not.
The printer would be used for... say... printing an invoice when an order comes in. I believe it would be using a windows application. But it definitely wouldnt be sustained printing. There would be times where invoices will be coming in constantly, but I am also certain there will be times that the printer will not have to print.
Is that a little more specific? ... I am not sure what other information I can provide, but hopefully this is a start.
Thank you very much for the very quick reply =]
Oh, and we are currently using Zebra printers to take care of invoices, then someone manually sticks the invoice with the items. But we wanted to automate that... if that makes sense.

The measure you are looking for is called First Page Out (FPO) ... this is a standard measure that you will find listed for most printers, that tells you how long from the time you click "Print" before the first page will come out of the printer...
Two seconds is a bit unrealistic ... I don't believe there are any HP Lasers that can process data and print it out that quickly ... for example, the LaserJet 4350 is one of the fastest available, and its First Page Out time is listed as "under 8 seconds" ...

Steve,
Thank you for that new bit of information. I had never heard of FPO, but will now check that when I am searching for printers.
I also thought that 2 second printing was a little unrealistic, but that is pretty much what my boss asked me to look into, so. HP's fastest printer prints in under 8 seconds? Is that pretty much the fastest I will be able to find anywhere?
Thanks again for everyone's help,
Neal
