hi there,

I have an LJ8100 with error "50.1 fuser"
It has been replaced with another one without succes so i suspect the low voltage p/s to be broken.

The thing is that this printer have an engine page count of 1084040. I'm wondering if it is worth putting money on it

What you guys think?

big thank in advance for this ;-)

lots of pages on that puppy! Its a decision for you to make, but if its been running good an LVPS could keep it running a while longer. However, with that many pages you could end up with other problems sooner than later, so you may decide to get a new one. If you decide to keep it make sure you clean it real good. Part of the problem with the LVPS's is design failure, but most of it is heat build up. Blow it out good, especially the fans. I've seen a 8100 with 1.5 mil on it. A buddy of mine's seen 2 mil. Still decision is yours.

I would decide based on what other maintenance the printer is soon due for:
- Obviously it needs a power supply
- It may also need any of these parts: a maintenance kit (pickup/feed rollers, transfer roller, separation pads, fuser), a new paper input unit, new output assembly rollers or gears...

If you've "recently" replaced most of these other items ... it's probably worth replacing the power supply ...

However, if you have not replaced these other items, I'd suggest upgrading to avoid the cost of parts & labor for replacing these other parts.

If you want a good replacement for 8100, you could upgrade with a refurbished 8150 model : http://www.printertechs.com/printer/refurbished-hp-laserjet-8150.php

I've worked on many of the 8000-8100 / 5si series models with well over a million prints on them. These are real workhorses. Plus their easy to work on.
