View Full Version : Set serial number in LaserJet 2200

Hi - newbie here.

Have a laserjet 2200dtn. Has given excellent and trouble-free service. Until now.

For unknown reasons it has lost the network. On printing the config page, these issues are apparent:

1) Only one page prints. The JetDirect page does not print.
2) The regular configuration shows that the Product Serial Number and Service ID are missing. The EIO slot shows empty.

Can this be resolved by restoring from NVRAM?

Does the empty EIO slot indicate that the net board is bad or could it have been lost from the config?

Any other advice?

Did it come with a error message?

you have to write a PCL program to reset the machine, details are in the 2200 service manual.

No error message - just stopped working.

So, reinit the NVRAM won't do it, eh?

This is a common problem Jim...when the card is installed but not appearing on Config page, it is almost never a problem with the formatter board (main logic board), just replace the network card ... I would suggest J3113A ... see http://www.printertechs.com/jetdirect/jetdirect-gallery.php

Will that also cause the serial number and service id to be lost?

NVRAM Init will do that. If you have not done it, then the formatter is the problem. PJL command from serial file will restore it. As wood_s said.
But you will have to replace the formatter anyway.

Thanks. Don't know if it had the init done - the printer is accessible to several users. The net card is definitely toast so that will get attention, then progress from there.
