Hi everyone, I have a 4100mfp that only prints copies out light. Printing from a PC and faxes don't have this issue. I have tried increasing the resolution from 3 to 5 and set the quality to dark, instead of medium, but neither has worked. The glass has been cleaned, no luck. This also happens from the document feeder.
Could this be solved with a maintenance kit...I'm fresh out of ideas.
Any help is appreciated!

No, the maintenance kit only contains rollers a sep pad and mylar. The mylar doesn't affect the flat bed scanning.
I don't see any known problems listed for the scanner.
It is an old printer. Maybe the lamp is just not bright enough.

The print count is over 164,000, sorry I don't have a copy count. Is the laser scanner assembly just one piece?

ok re reading the question, okay the printer engine is okay, I think the mirrors of the optics of the top scanner unit could be dirty, this happens in photocopiers, and a few flat bed scanners I worked on.
I would suggest to replace the top scanner unit, the scanner lamp could be wearing out it is a fluroresent lamp. like in a LCD monitor it does go faint after a while, to there is not enough brightness.
Sorry I confused myself with a laser beam assembly with the top scanner my apologies.

What does the thin glass on the left look like? The ADF scans from there, and if it is cloudy, cleant it!

The scanner of the 4100MFP calibrates each time it is powered on. There is a calibration strip mounted to the bottom of the top scanner cover (in between the two glass areas.)
At times this strip can get dirty and cause the scanner to not calibrate properly. Remove the ADF and then the top scanner cover (careful of the glass) and clean that calibration strip.
See if that helps.
