I have a HP 4050 that was in working order a week ago. Yesterday a user tells me that an error came up but she was able to delete it and continue  Unfortunately that fix did not last very long. I when I run the config page the card in the printer is not listed in EIO1 or 2. I have removed it and reinserted it with no change. I have tried another new card as well. Still not seen. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

what type of card are you putting in the machine?

perform cold reset with card removed. reinsert card and print config page with out card connected to network.

If this fails you're probably dealing with a bad formatter C4251-69001 - you can get these on exchange (send back old one to vendor) and it will be cheaper.

(If you've never replaced one before make sure you move the firmware chip from old formatter to new one when you're installing new one, cause it doesn't come with it. It should be relatively easy to remove as its only the screws that secure the cage and then you slide it to the rear to remove.)

Hope this helps

Move the jetdirect to the other EIO port. And check it.
Does the JD have a green lite when the printer is ready?
Plug the LAN cable into another wall jack(the PCs for instance).
Make sure that the wall jack is HOT.

The card that was in the printer at the time of failure was a 610N. I first moved it to the second IO port but that made no difference. I then removed that card and inserted a spare 615N. Same issue not recognized. I am wating on my supplier to call me back with a price on a board. I also have checked both cards on other printers. They are working fine.

Thanks for the help.

The 615N card is notorious for failure ... we no longer even sell the card...
the 610N card is more stable but the best replacements would be either the 600N card J3113A, or the new 620N J7934A cards...

Have you checked the RJ45 at the wall?
