My LJ 2320DN prints perfectly but makes a loud grinding noise that sounds like it's coming from the fuser or somewhere in that area just to the right of it. The noise has gotten steadily worse and is now very loud. The printer is fine otherwise and has only printed 60K pages in it's life. Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated.

is this 2320 or hp 2420?

If its HP 2420, replace the following:

HP Laserjet 2400/2410/2420/2430
RU5-0377 GEAR, 28T FUSER DRIVE 1
RU5-0378 GEAR, 20T FUSER DRIVE 1
RU5-0379 GEAR, 19T FUSER DRIVE 1
RU5-0331 GEAR, 29T FUSER DRIVE 1
RC1-3610 BUSHING, LOWER PRESSURE ROLLER, LEFT 1
RC1-3609 BUSHING, LOWER PRESSURE ROLLER, RIGHT 1

Usually 1 or more of these parts are bad.

Bill,

Unless you're a printer tech, I wouldn't recommend you personally replace the fuser bushings mentioned above ... while these bushings can definitely cause noise, you need to know how to disassemble and reassemble a fuser to replace these bushings...

The gears, however, are a different matter ... they are fairly easy to replace.

The best way to avoid this problem is to make sure you buy a maintenance kit from a reputable source (like PrinterTechs.com) that replaces gears and bushings when they rebuild their fusers... PrinterTechs' kits do include the fuser drive gear, which is a common source of the noise you're hearing...
