was this a first time installation or was it working before and now its not?
First remove all other options (stapler/stacker/sorter). Then,...
check connection cable between printer and tray 4 - I dont know if 9050 is like 8100, but on the 8100 you have to match the dots.
Tray 4 units have separate power supply
Is it plugged in?
Do you hear motors turning?
Check to see if its showing up on the configuration page after you try above steps.

Make sure that Tray 4 is plugged in before powering up the printer.
The light should come on sometime during initialization.
Asking "fxr" question, Did it ever work?
If it is a new install, check the power cables. No power strips.
If the light never comes on, you will never see it in "Config"
Again, double check the AC cables.
If it still doesn't lite, remove the back cover for tray 4. Just 4 screws. There is a label on the inside of that cover. It tells you how to interpret the lites on the controller board. And how to run the diags.
Don't worry about the stacker, it has nothing to do with the paper tray, except to stack its paper.
Get back to us with results.
Thanks first of all for all for the help, it seems that I have no power going to tray 4 I took off the back cover everything looks fine I have no motor sound on start up and no lights on the controller board in the back also no light on the front tray 4 in the front u know the one that blinks when its empty. The power source is working because it turns on the printer. Tray 4 doesnt show up on the config dispay either. Helpppppp!!!!! Thanks. I purchased it used so i dont know if it ever worked, all the other trays work though.

Turn off printer. Take the power cord out of the PRINTER and plug it into tray 4. Does the lite on the board come on now?
Did you notice the power supply in tray 4 when you removed the cover? The supply has a blue switch. It should be pushed in. Out for diags. The supply supplies power to the tray 4 driver board. Check the supply for fuses. Put a meter on it. There really isn't much to tray 4.
Ok this what I did I have another HP same model and everything swapped the board that is at the bottom and the power supply and the white thing that inserts two spike looking thing into tray for it has a little board on the back of it. Still no power on the board but when I installed the old board and parts on the other hp they all work so I dont know what is happening. I just dont get any power to the board or tray nothing.

there is a tray 4 diagnostic label on the inside of the tray 4 back cover. Use the DIPP switches to perform following diagnostic tests:
Motor test
This test verifies that the three motors on tray 4 are functioning correctly.
1 Identify the back cover (opposite from the tray door). Remove the four screws in the back cover.
Remove the back cover.
2 Pull open the tray.
3 Set the DIP switches on the controller PCA to the motor-test mode.
4 To turn the power-supply switch to the diagnostic mode, pull out on the blue handle.
• If the motors are working correctly, you will hear them as they rotate continuously.
• If the motors do not rotate, replace the corresponding FRU: either the paper pickup assembly
or the paper-deck drive assembly.
5 To stop the test, return the power switch to the operational mode (push it in), and reset the DIP
switches on the controller PCA to the off position.
Standalone running test verifies functionality of the unit. The bottom service light will flash regularly every .5 seconds. If it does something different there is a diagnostic light-pattern table in the service manual to interpret the problem.
It may be a bad power supply if you cant get any of the motors to work in motor test mode.
But if they do work then it may be either the communication cable between the unit and the printer or tray 4 controller problem. It would not be communicating to the printer.

If he has no power the switches have no function!!!
Power supply
Tray 4 employs a remote switch method for the power supply unit. The formatter sends a power-on
signal to the power supply unit through the driver PCA. When the signal is received, the power supply
unit supplies +24 Vdc and +5 Vdc to the driver PCA. +24V is then supplied to the lifter, feed, and
pickup motors to drive them. The +5 V is supplied to the sensors and also to the ICs on the driver
PCA.
The power unit utilizes a standalone switch so that tray 4 can be powered on without turning on the
printer. This switch is used for standalone diagnostics.
Take the formatter out of the other printer and stick it in this one. And power it up.
What is a formatter and its location? I do get power in diagnostic test mode and I did the dip switch test to test the motor and sensor and all is good, but when I turn all the dip switches to the normal position which is off I get no power. Also why is it that when I im doing a duplex print sometime they just turn off and will not come back on untill they feel like it. I unplugged them also let them cool down but they seem to come back on when they want to. Any ideas why. Thanks all, but im getting close to my last straw with this tray 4 issue. Is the formatter the board that slides in and out holds the memory and stuff if so I switch and still no power and tray 4 still is not working or showing up on the dispay.

So, the unit passed all of the stand alone tests, which means you have power and your problem is communication related. When its in normal mode the normal switch should be on and the rest off. If all are set to off nothing is going to work. So set the normal switch on and the rest off.
Once its set to normal, REMOVE the Duplex unit and any other option like sorters/stapler units, etc... Then reconnect tray 4 unit WITH the power off. Power up the printer and try to run a config page. Look to see if it shows up on the configuration page. If it does, you probably have a bad duplex unit (dont ask me how, but it has happened to me before). If it does not show up, you either have a bad communication cable or formatter. try new cable first cause its cheaper. The formatter is the motherboard of the printer and is the only board you can see from the outside of the printer. it is the board where the parallel cable, network cards and tray 4 unit plug into. There are two thumb screws securing it and it slides out.
I have 12 of these models and i swapped out the formatter and motherboard trays ect. but still no luck so at this point im done thanks to all for the help.

Pull the back cover on the tray 4 (4 screws) and you will see the circuit board with the dip switches. Usually there are instructions on the inside of the back cover.

I've opened the back cover and I could see all the parts that they are talking about in the service manual with one exception THE DIP SWITCHES.

What's the actual problem with the 2000 sheet feeder? It would probably be easier just to tell you which part you need to replace. I've never had a use for dip switches on any model that has the 2000 sheet tray.

I was asked to make a stand-alone test for the 2000 sheet tray. This test is explained in the service manual and on the back cover of the tray there is a label indicating how to do it .For this I must set some of the DIP switches in the ON position and others in the OFF position, but first I must find where the DIP switches are located :) and I couldn't locate them.

Well they should be right there on the pca. If they aren't I dont know what to tell you other than good luck.

From your attached picture, it appears that the dip switches are in the center left on the board.

Hi again, yesterday I had to have a look again at that printer and it's true , the DIP switches are in the center left, but they are so small that you can hardly imaginate that it's possible to move them. I made the tests .
Thanks for yours reply
