Hi all,

Printing is occasionally leaving vertical (portrait view) streaks on the back of sheets (the opposite side from which the printing is happening). It seems to occur on sheets following a page with color illustrations. For one side printing it isn't such a problem (how many folks look at the back pages for smudges?). In duplex printing it really degrades the quality. The streaks appear to be cyan.

These streaks at thin ~ 1/8" (2-3 mm) and run from the top edge of the paper to the bottom. Generally, the first streak is on the right side of the page about 2" (52 mm) in from the right paper edge (8½ × 11, portrait). Occasionally, after a photo with a lot of blue, there is a second vertical streak much lighter than the first and 1 11/16" (42 mm) to the left of the first. Occasionally there is a single streak on left about 1 5/8" (41 mm) from the left paper edge.

Cleaned the post charger unit, density sensor, transfer charger, and waste toner tray following the HP8500 service manual. Also inspected the cyan toner cartridge and it wasn't especially dirty. The remaining life for the transfer kit is 37%; fuser kit 80%; and drum kit 30%. Running continuous configuration pages occasionally produce the right side top edge to bottom edge streak.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Rusty

Well, if it appears to be cyan streaks, change the cyan cartridge.

did you try half page test and see if it is showing the streaks before it goes into the fuser? usually image problems on the back of the paper is image path or fuser pressure roller.
