I have an elderly neighbor.
He has a Windows 98 system that he uses primarily for e-mail and just a bit of web browsing. His kids gave him a HP Deskjet F4140 printer for Christmas. He hasn't been able to get that printer to work with his system. I don't think he wants to tell his kids the printer doesn't work with his computer. He has used the printer's copy function and he likes that. I was wondering if there was any possible way I might be able to help him to get this F4140 working with Windows 98? Is it possible the HP driver might install in 98? All he would really do with this printer is print off e-mails, etc. It wouldn't be anything very sophisticated. I was thinking there might even be some sort of 'generic' driver that might work. Maybe something that would just print text.

Well, any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Hi, James!
I tried the driver from that location (which ends up being the HP web site).
The driver install definitely checks for the Windows level and stops when it detects Win/98. So I didn't have any luck with that.
I tried using the built-in 'Generic' driver in Win/98.
But I couldn't get that to work either.
