I am a non-technician user and have always done my own maintenance. My workhorse HP 4000 (1,100,000 copies) has developed several new problems since I last did PM 100,000 copies ago. (Fuser and rollers)
The printer seems to copy more slowly when the paper drawer is less than half full. If the paper tray is completely full, it will copy at a faster rate. In addition, it seems to groan more with each copy than it used to. The copy quality remains excellent!!!

Thanks for your help!

Behind the feed roller for tray 2 are 4 pickup rollers(RB1-8957-000cn) on a roller shaft. They are probably in need of replacement. Also there is a "pickup coupler"(RB1-8877-000cn) at the right end of the aforementioned "roller shaft" that should be changed also. If you remove the paper tray and the toner cartridge, turn the printer upside down. Remove the bottom plate and you can now see what is going on. Pay attention to the spring at the other end of the "roller shaft", don't lose it, take it off and unsnap the "roller shaft" from the plastic clips that keep it in place. Have fun!

If you accidently lose the spring and the little number 9, this is the part numbers:

RB1-2190 COLLAR, SPRING (HP 2100/2200/2500/4000/4050/4100/5000/5100)
RS5-2632 SPRING, PICK-UP (HP 4000/4050/4100/5100)

Try not to knock them off cause its a pain to try to get it back on. Especially if you have a HP 4000T (It has 2 - 250 sheet trays and the tray cavity very narrow space to work in.) :)
