First be sure the transfer roller is seated properly...
Instructions for the transfer roller:

If the transfer roller is seated properly, inspect the top cover's toner door. There should be a thin plastic arm "locked into" the right hand side of the top cover's toner door...if not, the arm is probably come loose and will be resting on the top of the printer... this arm has two small "teeth" that lock into a circle hole in the toner lid door...

Might be a broken toner cartridge. If there's another 4100 try it in that one. Or take the cartridge out of a working 4100 and stick it in your bad printer. KISS

We haven't heard back from you on the 4100.

I just had a late thought. The gear that engages the toner cartridge may be stuck because the cartridge door interlock is broke or not connected to the door. Lift the cartridge door, look in on the right side, see the white gear? As you close and open the cartridge door that gear should move in and out.
