Hi experts,

Printer: Epson CX4900
OS: Windows XP

I have tried the old drivers (Epson UK) and the newer drivers aswell.

Sometimes my computer doesn't recognise the printer. When it does recognise and I try to print, the Epson Status Monitor screen reads "Communication Error"

I also tried manually setting up the printer, instead of following the Epson driver setup. No luck.

For some reason, the printer works on my old computer (which also runs XP).

HOWEVER, I believe my new computer uses 2.0 USB, and my old computer doesn't.

Any ideas?

Cheers,

How do I downgrade my USB?

And how do I identify which usb port is plugged to my printer?

Sorry, these may be noob questions.

Cheers

Hmm.. sounds like a driver error but here's a few things to try regardless.

- Remove the existing driver completely using a scrubber or similar
- Try reinstalling manually using the "Add printer" route described in a few of my other posts (ignoring the fact that they're HP based)
- Try a different USB cable (sometimes they are faulty)
- If you're using a USB hub to connect to the new machine, remove it and try a direct connection
- Try upgrading your drivers for your motherboard, sometimes things like chipset drivers can resolve issues like this
- I'm assuming you've tried plugging the printer into other USB ports on the newer computer but if not, try again.

Beyond that I'm not much help...
