Epson R220 interchanging cartridge in emergency

Hello I have a epson r220 and recently my CYAN cartridge became empty .
The printer then would not print anything.
Is it possible in some way to sustitute another colour temporary until i purchase a new CYAN.

When i tried it says it did not recognise the LIGHT CYAN cartridge i used.

Any advice would be welcomed

each cartridge has a chip which identifies the color. you cant interchange them. You can use this utility http://www.ssclg.com/epsone.shtml to freeze the ink level so the printer never knows when it's out of ink. the advantage is if you run out of a color you dont need, you can keep printing. the disadvantage is you wont know you're out of a color until it stops showing up on your printout. But you have to do the freeze when there's ink in the cartridge. It doesnt help to do it with an empty cartridge.
