HP4200 going offline randomly

I have an HP4200 that goes offline randomly. Any idea what causes that?

are you talking about a printer that is not showing ready?
not responding from control panel?
or that the network is not seeing periodically?

It's going from ready status to "offline"

Look at the event log. Or better yet, clear the event log. Use the printer. When it drops ready check the log. See if entries correspond to ready dropping.

Intermittent makes it difficult. I would start with the formatter, it's the easiest to replace.
Is it on a network or local?
