Help - HP Deskjet 3845

Hopefully someone might be able to help me.
The first time I try to print something I am asked if I wish to add/install a printer (as there is nothing showing in the print box). But once I have restarted my computer, there are no problems and my printer is recognised. Has anyone got any suggestions?

I would try reinstalling your printer driver ...
go to HP.com, they have a "Download Drivers & Software" section, search for your printer model and you will find a list of drivers...choose the one that matches your version of Windows...
