I have HP Deskjet F380 All-in-One printer. I have been trying to access a new printer driver [this one seems full of bugs] but when I go to HP all I get is an automatic system scan, and are then told that as it’s the latest version I don’t need one…but I DO…I want one that WORKS! I tried downloading from a driver-download site too and got the same answer…can anyone help please?

Probably the best way to resolve this is to:
- get the latest driver download from the HP site (don't go to a 3rd party one unless you are very confident they aren't infected with something)
- uninstall your existing driver
- disconnect the printer
- delete the existing printer for this printer
- reboot the PC
- extract the drivers into a folder using 7zip to extract the exe driver file
Go through a manual install routine ie:
- open "Printers & Faxes"
- click "Add printer"
- Choose the "Have Disk"
- "Browse" to the location for your extracted drivers
- Choose the autorun.inf file (it usually does this itself)
- Click ok
- Choose your printer model from the list shown
- Go through the rest of the wizard normally and finish.
As a rule I never install the HP drivers using the utility provided anymore, it's pure bloatware so the above should work ok on a WinXP machine.
You might want to run a system restore point to be sure you can recover your Windows install to before you started on the above but that should work ok.
Best of luck.

Thanks a lot for that info...will give it a go.
But, one thing I don't understand... how does one download a driver from HP without them telling you that yours is the latest version, so you don't need it?

Just go to the www.hp.com website, and look up the support and drivers for your model printer manually.. You don't need to use the HP Update utility.
