hi all,
I have a HP Laserjet 8150 and it is creating horizontal lines across the pages it prints. I looked and the top fuser roller has a spot on it that matches up with the defects on the paper.
The printer is not even a year old and there are only 148,000 pages on it. The maintenance interval for this printer is 350,000... I would hate to have to buy a fuser assembly after only half it's life expectancy.
Is there something I can do to try and clean the toner off the fuser roller?
thanks...

No, it is not recommended to attempt cleaning this upper roller...sorry but you'll need to replace the fuser.
This does seem a bit early for a fuser to fail -- if this is a remanufactured fuser, just make sure you buy your next fuser from someone who is truly rebuilding the fuser with high quality parts (like PrinterTechs!).
Remember, this 350,000 page estimate is HP's estimate, probably somewhat inflated for sales purposes--this estimate would only be truly applicable for people running under totally ideal conditions: using genuine HP toner, printing less than 5% toner coverage per page, using no envelopes, no stationary or specialty paper, no duplexing, etc.
All of these things will wear the fuser more quickly...

I have had some success cleaning upper roller with alcohol - dries fast. not going to work if roller is damaged or worn. :)

The printer is less than a year old. Its the original fuser that came with the printer. I would hope HP used genuine parts in the equipment they sold.
As for the fuser, it looks like the toner built up and stuck to the top roller. I will try the alcohol trick..
Thanks.Ed

Hopefully cleaning with alchohol will help for awhile...but it may be time for a maintenance kit soon.

If the alcohol doesn't work give me a call and I'll give you a good deal on a fuser exchange. I'm not trying to blatantly promote our products, I'd just like to take your fuser apart, inspect its components, and see how it failed. If genuine HP parts are failing prematurely its something I'd like to investigate.

I have the same problem, we haven't even had our printer for 2 years, it's a Phaser 6180. WE are a small church and our printing is limited. In our 2 years we have only had to replace the toners 1 time and that has been in the past 2 months. How is it possible that our fuser has gone out? It is causing many paper jams, I see the toner on the fuser and it is sticky. Can you please help?
