Good morning to all,

I have about six HP Laserjet 2600n printers that were working perfectly on our print server, one day they just stopped printing. We would send print jobs to the printers and the job would just get stuck in queue. When I stop and restart the print spooler service the printer would then print out the job, but if you tried to send another prnt job the same thing would happen over again. I then removed the printers from our print server and installed them on another server and they started to work ok for about two weeks, then back to the same problem. I have tried calling HP and they do not offer any type of help and they say that this is not considered a network printer, yet the printer comes with a built in network card (Go figure). So now I am coming to the real experts for an answer or suggestion. One more thing to add, after the printers started acting up I installed a clean server running Server 2008 and installed two of the six printers to it, one of the printers prints ok but the second with the identical drivers does not. Can someone please shine some light in this issue as I am completely stumped. Thank you in advance for any and all your help and suggestions.

Thanks,
Erick B

We are having the same problem. Our LaserJet 1022n's (5 of them) will print fine out of windows based applications but when we use our main terminal services program and try to print from it the printers will que up and eventually error out. We currently have SBS 2k3 running our DNS and DHCP and cant figure our whats wrong. If there are any settings I can mess with I would REALLY appreciate any help.

What drivers? XP, Vista, are unstable for older units. Try using the XP or 2000 drivers. Upgrade the network card firmware through HP's WebJet Admin.
this could be the real issue. Your servers speed may affect the throughput to the printer. It is, really a personal printer, not for office production.

We get these through our shop from time to time. You cannot
upgrade the firmware on a Jet Direct card plugged into a
2600 printer. Have to take it out, put it in another LJ and
upgrade it there. This has been my experience any way.
No help on the networking issue, sorry.

I don't know enough about this issue directly but discussion here:

Indicate it may have a lot to do with the fact that the printer is a host based system.

IIRC the solution is to change the port to use a Standard TCP/IP port instead of the HP port. Sometimes turning off the bi-directional communication helps too.

Hope that helps...

Yeah, the HP port is sketchy. HP's WJA is most usefull for doing updates on firmwares. You might want to add memory to the host system.
