I recently tried to install a maint kit for a Laserjet 2420n. This however came with no instructions. When it came to replacing the Tray 1 Separation Pad & Pickup Roller, it came as a complete part, including the bar that the Pickup roller is attached to. Without the instructions I stupidly tried to change the whole thing and broke one of the white plastic pieces that are attached to the bar. this white plastic piece, I believe, detects how much paper is in the tray. I cannot seem to get this bar out to change the broken piece. Anyone got any instructions on how to do this?

Hi Moverton:
I pulled a junker off the shelf and tried to remove that shaft. It looks like you have to remove the transmission from the right side of the printer then pull that square steel shaft out the right side. You would have to release the catches on the two white bushings and the one on the assembly that holds the pickup roller.

It seems that the "D" rollers on the white bushings just help the edges of the Tray 1 paper move along. If it is only the "D" section of the white plastic that is broken the printer may work OK without it?

The pickup roller detaches from the shaft by moving two black tabs aside and the roller pops right out. Good thing to remember. Changing that whole shaft is a major job.

Holler if I can be of further help. Let me know what part of the white plastic bushing is broken.
