We have several of these across our network, and have allowed users access through server installed print queues. We run xp pro and windows 2003. A few months back, every 4200 on the network started have issues. Some of the issues experienced include randomly shrinking the font to microscopic format, skipping tray 2 and 3 even though they were set up correctly and requiring a manual feed tray load to print, at times printing garbage, not wanting to duplex, etc. We have tried countless drivers to no avail as the issues still come. The only solution we have been able to effectively implement is to install the driver locally on the desktops and assign the printers through net use to an lpt port. This is not, however, a practical longterm fix as many of our users print to a lot of different 4200's throughout our organization. We are assuming that there is a conflict somewhere with one of the microsoft updates, but we have not been able to find any information regarding this thus far. We have, however, run into a few other networks similar to our that experiencing the same issues. Does anyone have any suggestions?

All of these issues definitely sound like driver implementation issues...
which Tray is pulled from is driver-related...printing garbage is driver-related, failing to duplex can result if the driver is not "informed" there is a duplexer installed...

I understand that you have tried many drivers...don't know which ones you've tried but I've had good luck with the HP LaserJet 4200 PCL5e driver downloaded directly from HP.com, not the built-in Microsoft driver...

If the correct driver is installed, it is either not set up correctly (e.g. it is not told a duplexer is installed, etc.), or somehow users are printing to the wrong driver, or the driver is corrupted and needs to be reinstalled...

Good post, cs. These issues can be the JD card. Upgrade the firmware through HPS WebJet Admin. If using 600, 615, trade up to the 620
