When I first go this printer it did not work I remember going to the HP website and downloading something (not the drivers) and it finally worked. Well I had to reinstall my os (Windows XP Professional) and I forgot to save this file. Well the printer doesn't work again. It did a self test and printed fine when I try to print I see the job spooling and then it deletes. The printer light does blink like it is going to print but nothing comes out.

Just get the win2000 driver. Close XP's wizard when it opens, then add printer.

Might be a dumb question but I am not understanding. If the wizard is closed how do I ad the printer??

Well after fooling around I finally got the WIN200o driver installed with the printer. But it still doesn't printthe light flashes on the printer. When I look at the printer it shows it is printing and them deleting but nothing comes out:eek:

A couple things:

First, this still sounds like a driver issue. Try again, make sure you download the PCL5e driver for Windows 2000 from HP.com. Here is a link, scroll down to find the PCL5e drvier:

If drivers are not familiar to you, you might want to check out this tutorial:
http://www.printertechs.com/tech/tutorials/drivers/installdrivers1.php

Other possibilities, not as likely--

If you have a JetDirect card on your printer and you are connecting to the printer using a network cable, you might have a failing Ethernet card...not as likely though.

Also, you might want to try a Cold Reset for your machine...this involves turning printer off, holding down the "Online" button briefly as you power the machine back on...this restores the printer settings/memory/network configurations to factory defaults...

Good point CS. Nobody asked it...how is the printer connected to the PC?
If it is by JD is the green light on the JD on?
Print out config pages. The 2nd page will tell you if the "i/o card is ready".
Is it the correct IP address?
You could even try to ping the address.

If you're using the parallel port...try a different cable.

Twice you say that it "deletes" the print job. What do you mean?
