I have an HP 4050TN with low copies and in great shape. But the output is blurred. What would cause this? It is a great printer I would like to still use. Thanks.

How many pages since the last maintenance? Is it blurry from either tray?
Try the half page test.

That is a new one. the half page test. I will look, but how do you do that? Also on the maintenance, it has never had anything done to it as it still has low page counts.
a half stop test would be;start a print from tray 1 and when the trailing edge of paper is just entering the machine, open the cover to stop print.take out the cartridge and open it's shutter and see if the print on the drum is blurry.
if it is then it most likely is the cartridge;if it is not on the drum ,yet is on the paper underneath, then it would point to the transfer roller or possibly an issue with the static charge eliminator.if the issue is not on the drum or paper ,then it would point to the fuser.since at that point when stopping it,the paper would not have made it to the fuser yet.

The 4050 is an old printer. Even if the page count is low, install a maintenance kit. Rubber changes with age. At least install new rollers.

a old printer and a great printer, its the fuser assembly heater assembly that needs replacement, replace that and your a happy camper, dont buy a maintenance kit just buy the heater assembly before you install it clean the fuser assembly and two paper feed rollers and a transfer roller. much cheaper.
dont replace the fuser chassis just the heater assembly, I had this simlar problem in 2005 when i first bought mine, just replace the fuser heater.
