I have a LaserJet 4. When I close the papertray after adding paper, I receive a message "Load Letter" and the online light goes off. When I move the tray a little bit, the "ready" light comes on. Sometimes it goes to "Load Letter" on its own and if I jiggle the tray, the "Ready" light will come back on - and sometimes not. Any suggestions as to what I need to do to fix this problem?

New printer! Sorry. The tray is probably too worn and does not hit the paper sensor fingers. This just tells it there is a tray of a certain size. The black flag that hangs down tells it it has paper. Use canned air to blow out that area.

The sensor can be changed if it is bad, it usually is not the tray itself. Be sure the spring action under where the paper goes has enough pressure. Sometimes I would install a new spring or stretch this spring to get more pressure, thus ensuring that the paper was hitting the sensor flag completely.
