My trusty 4P won't feed paper with the manual feed. It will pick up the paper but then when given a print job it stops and gives a (false) paper jam message. Interestingly, it will feed a loaded (previously picked up) sheet through when going through its self test on power up.

No problem feeding or printing paper from the tray.

Problem began when manual feeding large index cards, a job it has handled easily many times.

Any advice appreciated. Thanks.

i believe that manual feed paper is pulled in with the registration roller directly.but there is an input paper sensor that senses in 4 positions ;one of them is the manual feed sense position.could be an issue with this sensor stuck out of position or something.

That does make sense. So where is the input paper sensor and how do I check it?

I am not a tech, just a user who is not afraid to ask questions and make an effort. Thanks for any assistance.

Pull tray out. You will see a rectangular slot straight ahead. this is the sensor for the flag that is just to the left. The P/U assy. operates all the paper feed, there is no registration. The large black roller that feeds the paper may be too worn to grab from the MP slot. It may be that the sensor on the main board is dirty. Use spray air to blow it out. If not, replace the printer, the engine board cost is not worth it.
