hello. anyone ever run into a problem on a laserjet 4v unit that comes up with streaks on a drum after it has been on for awhile? the drum and transfer roller have been replaced , the unit works fine for a 100 or so pages then the durm gets smudges that you have to almost have to scrub off. fuser looks fine and the drum unit was doing the same thing on the old unit.

are you saying that the cartridge was replaced and the new one is doing the same thing as the old one?

HP or reman toner? Check contacts on left side of toner cavity. One in front, and three in back.

Change the fuser. It's putting out too much heat.

These do put out a lot of heat. There is a flexible bar on the fuser, just above the transfer roller assy. with a bit of foam on it that acts as a wiper for the toner. Is this there? If not, replace fuser.

Is the transfer roller aftermarket? Some aftermarket transfer rollers leave a mark on the toner drum. I've see this on Laserjet 4000's but never 4V's, but it's worth a check.

Pull out the transfer roller, leave it sit overnight on a clean sheet of paper. You might want to put a magazine or something fairly light on top of the transfer roller to give it a little pressure down on the paper (but not so much that you deform the roller). If there is a black line on the paper in the morning you need to get a new transfer roller. Genuine HP transfer rollers are still available but expensive. The drum in your toner cartridge is probably ruined if this is the case. :(
