Paper Jam Message

Hey Steve here,
I have a HP PhotoSmart D7160 and it's broken. Basically it keeps saying there is a paper jam when no paper is actually jammed in anywhere. And it wouldn't be stickers or anything because I have not printed any. When I turn it on it also says that I shouldn't turn it off by removing the power cord because it could cause damage or something. And I never have. The biggest thing that bothers me is that this is my second one. I tried all the troubleshooting stuff online and in the Manuel plus calling the tech support. But I had to send it off to be replaced/repaired and this one is doing the same thing now. Is there something I am possibly doing wrong? Or something that I can do? Any help or suggestions would be much appreciated!

When you lift upper assy. to access the carriage, there is a flag that may be awry. It may be at the left, just above where the tray goes in.
If you have a duplexor assy. in the rear, remove it, and look for the entry flag in the rear of the platen.
Remove paper tray, and look for any \thing that may prevent it from lifting.
