printer scanner compatibility

I have been told that for the best quality scanned prints I should have a printer and scanner from the same manufacturer (ie.both Epsons). Is the quality really better than lets say an Epson scanned picture printed on an HP printer? I am not talking about these two brands specifically.

Because it's an idiotic statement with no foundation.
Unless of course your friend works for a printer/scanner manufacturer. He was trying to sell you equipment, right!

If you get a good scanner and a good printer regardless of manufacturer, you'll get good prints.
