Noob looking for help picking out new printer

I have had my Canon I860 for quite a while but I want a new printer.

I really like Canon products but I am open to other suggestions as well.

I need the printer to be capable of printing photos (I have a canon digital camera) as well as text (all my homework) and I would really like it if the printer had a scanner (That would really come in handy for me). I would be guessing I'm looking for a inkjet printer?

i like the new Canon Pixma series they have individual inks for all colors some printers have only the four colors and some have the six colors which is the machine you would need for your photos two of the inks are photo magenta and photo cyan.
Also much cheaper to run then tri-color printers and you can see through the cases which helps to verify if they are full or empty.
